Objectives
After this session, participants will be able to:

  1. 1. Describe the meaning and importance of medical professionalism
  2. 2. Discuss how conflict of interest may compromise professionalism
  3. 3. Identify three significant boundary issues and proper limits in relation to each
  4. 4. Discuss the few exceptions to the principle of confidentiality
  5. 5. Describe two important ethical issues with respect to operating a practice
  6. 6. List three elements that help to distinguish between “Usual and Customary” and “Health Care Fraud”
  7. 7. Describe errors practitioners frequently commit with regard to informed consent
  8. 8. Explain how autonomy and beneficence can easily come in conflict
  9. 9. Describe two issues of particular concern when prescribing controlled substances
  10. 10. Explain how patients behave in two or three typical drug scams and outline appropriate provider countermeasures
