Theme: Building Bridges for Purposeful Global Healing: Interrelation and Mutuality in Clinical Ethics and Consultation

Synopsis:
Inspired by this passage from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Letter from a Birmingham Jail, this, the 20th International Conference on Clinical Ethics and Consultation, centers around interrelatedness and mutuality, a fact of human existence, and how clinical ethics and consultation recognizes, strengthens, or perhaps sometimes challenges what Dr. King called “the interrelated structure of reality.” Those involved in clinical ethics come from a wide variety of professional, disciplinary, cultural backgrounds and practice in disparate clinical settings. The 2026 ICCEC celebrates this fact, serving as a global forum for collaborative learning, sharing, bridging divides, and promoting healing that recognizes our interrelatedness and mutual dependence. In this spirit, submissions should fall into 1 of the following categories:
     1. Clinical Ethics Past, Present, and Future
     2. Clinical Ethics, “Ingroups,” and “Outgroups”
     3. Clinical Ethics, Healthcare, and the Environment
     4. Clinical Ethics, Technology, and the Human

Abstracts:
Abstracts are currently under review. We anticipate sending acceptance notifications toward the end of January.

1. Identify best practices for ethics consultation in healthcare settings that are patient and staff centered and help to bridge existing "ingroup/outgroup" divides.
2. Explain strategies for durable clinical ethics program development that allow past successes and failures to inform present and future efforts.
3. Discuss the interrelationship between healthcare, the environment, and clinical ethics and develop strategies for addressing the ethical dimensions of this.
4. Recognize the ethical implications of new and emerging technologies for clinical practice, clinical ethics and consultation, including the human/technology interface.
