Activity Description
On December 29, 2022, the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023 enacted a new one-time, eight-hour training requirement for all Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)-registered practitioners on the treatment and management of patients with opioid or other substance use disorders. The DEA Certification Category 1 CME Course: Safer Prescribing of Controlled Drugs - Opioids / Benzodiazepines / Psychostimulants 8 hour course was specifically developed to help physician and advanced practice prescribers meet this new one-time requirement for all DEA-registered practitioners.

The ongoing opioid epidemic is a top priority for physicians and organized medicine. In addition, clinicians report discomfort regarding benzodiazepine and psychostimulant prescribing challenges. To address the problem head-on, this course has been designed for physicians in all specialties, to help them increase their knowledge and ability to effectively prescribe controlled medications that have abuse potential, with the intention to provide appropriate and safe access to controlled prescription medications while limiting diversion, abuse, dependence and liability.
